Multisite or CPT's

I have multisite installed with buddypress but then came across this post by IPSTENU.

Can you have separate domains for each user using CPT’s? The reason I ask is I am looking to build a network of blogs that are completely homogeneous. Same theme, menu, and sidebar widgets, but I want each user to have their own domain and blog (blog.com/user). Trying to get the parent site and child sites the same is becoming quite the hassle, and I’m wondering if I do not need to even go the multisite route.
