Multisite install subdirectory vs subdomain with WPMU Dev Domain Mapping
-
I’m getting lost here, not sure whether which multisite setup I have to use. I’ve been using WP multisite with the subdirectory configuration for years but recently with my current project I need to consider learning to change the setting on my freshly installed WP multisite to the SUBDOMAIN configuration. My project requirement are as follows:
- User can sign up for free and will be automatically given their site domain to “http://user1.mainsite.com”. The main site is kept under root directory by the way.
- They can pay to switch from “http://user1.mainsite.com” TO “http://user1.com”
My questions are
- From those scenario above, which setup do I need to use: subdirectory or subdomain?
- If I have to move from existing setup subdirectory configuration to subdomain, I have to edit 2 relevant files: wp-config.php and .htaccess, is there anywhere else I have to edit?
- I am using Domain Mapping plugin, when it comes into place, from my understanding, it could map any subdirectory or subdomain setup to the “http://user1.com” is that correct? Then domain mapping is essentially must be used regardless of what set up I’ll have?
- How to make the subdomain setting work under localhost XAMPP?
- I have problem granting permission from pending/deleting user from BuddyPress as it says “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.” At first I thought my site was installed within subdirectory, then I moved the main site to root but still encountering the same problem. Could it be caused by .htaccess rules?
Thank you.
