I have the Multisite Extension for All-In-One, and I have a question regarding importing to a sub-site under multisite. When I go to the Export page, I can see the different sub-sites that I can export from. However, when I go to the Import page, I don’t see a way of importing to a specific sub-site. That is, I want to import posts/pages to a specific sub-site and not all of them. How would the Multisite Extension know which sub-site to import to?

    Hi

Once you drag and drop the wpress file on import, plugin will ask you to confirm the import process and on the next step you will be able to enter your new subsite URL. If you decide to enter already existing subsite URL, that subsite will be overwritten, otherwise new one will be created.

Just for your info, you can import subsite or set of subsites or entire network. It depends on your export settings and how many sites you have selected or full network.

    Best Regards,

Thanks, Bobby. So what I’m trying to do is create a development version of a site that I already have in production so I can play around with changing the theme. For example, if the production site is abc.com, I’m creating a subsite on my test environment called abc.mytestsite.com, and populating it with the pages & posts from the production site.

One other question: I’m getting an error when I try to do the import, so the suggestion is to FTP the export file up to the site and use the Backup/Restore mechanism. Will that work in this case since the export file wasn’t originally created as a backup of the subsite?

    Hi

Quick question, what error did you get on import?

    I select Import from File.

After selecting the file (it’s 589 MB big), the progress bar gets to 3.39% and then hangs. After about eight minutes, a dialog pops up titled Unable to import. The text says

We are sorry there seems to be a problem while uploading your file. Follow this guide to resolve.

    Hi

Thanks! Yes, you can use that approach. The idea is once you have the exported file (wpress) you can upload it via FTP to the destination site, if this is a local site, just copy it to [WordPress]/wp-content/ai1wm-backups and then you can restore the file from Backups page.

That worked perfectly, and now I have a complete duplicate of my production environment. Thanks very much!
