I’ve only ever seen one .htaccess fIle for each WP install in my years of MultiSite installs. I rarely go into the backend. I’m not tech literate, but I am trying to learn.

This https://codex.wordpress.org/htaccess is listing multiple places for .htaccess.
    I am confused:
    – where to place it or them if I need to
    – what is the purpose for multiple .htaccess files in a MultiSite
(one example of a purpose would be fine)

    Thank You

You will not have multiple .htaccess files in a wp multisite network — just one, in the root of the main domain.

.htaccess goes in the root of the site, in the same folder as wp-config.php

Thank you very much for responding!

That is good to know. I’ll ignore whatever that page is referring to.
