Multisite for a downtown?

    I’m creating a website for a downtown area (approx. 700 retailers/professionals). I’ve done many wordpress installs, but I’m not sure whether a multisite would make sense here. With so many merchants involved, would it make sense to set up a multisite even if there’s only one main site to begin with? Can you change over to a multisite later?

    All the Networks (multisites) I know of started with only one main site. You may install the Network so you have the flexibility to add sites as need in the future, but nowhere does it say you have to add a second site, a third, …
    If you elect to go with sub-folder sites blah.com/site2, as opposed to sub-domain site2.blah.com sites, WP will dissuade you from creating your Network. Sure you can change, but the longer you leave it, the more drama there will be. Give the Network a kick in the tires, those clients deserve it.
