 * I’m doing a redesign for a non-profit organization, lets call them nicepeople.
org, and we envision future needs that would benefit from running as multi-site.
 * The current site is running at nicepeople.org and know how to make it multisite.
I would hope to prototype the new site for them at say beta.nicepeople.org maybe
even fleshing it out with the current site content. Ultimately, I would like
to turn that site live at nicepeople.org and maybe put the existing site at archive.
   nicepeople.org
 * As far as using a site export, am I better off doing that _before_ converting
   it to multisite?
 * Are there clean ways of moving a sub-site to main, and vice versa? Or I could
apply the new theme for beta.nicepeople.org at nicepeople.org and maybe have
   to redo some pages. menus.
 * I know there are structural differences between main and sub sites but am not
sure about what I might be missing in figuring out how to move them. I have gleaned
   some ideas from [http://halfelf.org/2013/breaking-up-multisite/](http://halfelf.org/2013/breaking-up-multisite/)

 * Kind of…. I talk about it in [https://store.halfelf.org/ebooks/wordpress-multisite-110/](https://store.halfelf.org/ebooks/wordpress-multisite-110/)
and it totally does work, but you’ll still have to edit all the posts for internal
links (and that’s been hit or miss for some people).
 * The real question here is that, in the end, will nicepeople.org BE a multisite
for any reason other than development? I mean, do you plan to have multiple sites
   for real use later on?
 * If not, then don’t do it with Multisite. Make a separate stand alone, do the
work there, and then swap ’em out.

 * Thanks Mika (I just bought the 101 and will likely get the 110 version, great
   resource).
 * Yes, we have other reasons for multisite. There are plans to create subsites
for neighborhood projects which may share a common template, but need different
sites; possibility of staff and community individual blogs, and a parallel major
site that will need a completely different theme and functionality (I know how
to do this all thematically / custom post type wise and see how that might go)
 * I see the advantages of a single WP / plugins for updating, and being able to
give common logins to users who may author on multiple sites.
