I’ve done a lot with wordpress but nothing with multisite.
Our main site is in expression engine, but we have various child/sub sites (currently 3) in folders on the main domain that need their own look and feel. I’d like to use wordpress multisite to more easily manage these additional sites, rather than having multiple WordPress installs.
We have our own server running Apache and use aliases to separate these child/sub sites from our main expressionengine site.
I know that you can’t install WordPress multisite in example.com/wordpress and run example.com out of it, but can I install multisite in one location (perhaps even outside the web directory) and use Apache aliases and/or vhosts to map WordPress child sites to example.com/blog and example.com/magazine
For instance if the files in /www/mainsite/ resolve to example.com and we install wordpress at /www/wpsite/ and it, through Apache aliases, resolves to example.com/wpsite could I install WordPress Multi-site at /www/wp-ms/ and use Apache aliases to have it and its child sites resolve to example.com/wp-ms/ and example.com/child-site1/ and example.com/child-site2/?
