  • Hi All

I’m after some advice on the best way to manage 4 sites. I’ve had multisite working in test environment of 3 sites and been able to post/share content to each of them.

In the real world I would like to access each of them with their own domain and own email etc and treat them as separate sites although sharing some posts.

Where I’m getting a little confused is that when I try and install multisite on the server (a virtual server with its own IP) I’m getting the message that I can only install into sub-directories. Using this method can I have a separate domain for each site so they all look as though they are independent and not via a directory off of the main url or do i need to configure it some other way?

Thanks in advance for any help and hope this makes sense. Also apologies if this is a common question but the brain has become a little scrambled by it all!

  • WP multi-site is for creating multiple blog structures with either sub-domain path or sub directory paths. If you have separate domain names for each site, you shouldn’t use multi-site function. I would use add on domains on the server and install each site separately.

Decent web hosts usually allow you to host multiple sites on one account without extra charge. I run 6 sites on one account for example. Check with your host and see if that’s the case. If not honestly change your host.

You can use a plugin to share an publish posts to multiple sites.

    Hope this helps.

You can use multisite and full domains with the domain mapping plugin.

You do have to create the subsites as subdirectories or subdomains first. then map them with the plugin.

Can someone please tell me if you have to pay the $97 per landing page or can you use the $247 option to make more than one landing page? I am confused because I am trying to make another page and it’s directing me to pay another fee…. Which I think we bought the “multi line” option last time.
    Please help!

    Liisa, I think you’re lost.

    There’s no charge for WordPress.
