    Hello,
I built my first WordPress.org site last June, and today have updated to the newest version for the first time. I’m new at this, so I was super careful to follow all directions and tutorials on both WordPress and on WooThemes to update both WP and my Canvas theme. After first taking backups, disabling plugins, I updated WP to 3.4.2. Then I enabled plugins. Then I d/l’ed the newest version of my Canvas Commerce theme and via Filezilla, my FTP program, I uploaded the newest version, and overwrote my “custom.css” file. Unfortunately, after all this, the slideshow on my homepage is missing and when I am signed in to WP, there is floating text at the top of my website. I wrote in for help on that before, but never received a response. Also, my main nav at the top of each page is missing the page name – in other words, when you’re on the home page the “home” is missing from the main nav, and the same happens on each page. So, in conclusion, after the updates, my slideshow is missing from the homepage, the main nav is missing text and the previously chosen rollover color, and there is still that floating text on my site only when I’m signed in to WordPress. Also, when signed in to WP, if you click anywhere in the background of my website, somehow it’s all one big link which is the same as the one link that I have in the footer! My website is: http://ginacharles.com Please let me know if you need any other info or screen shots. Thank you so much for any help on this!

    Best Regards,
    Gina

  • I’m sorry but as you are using a commercially supported theme, you need to seek support from the theme’s developers.

Okay, I will, but they can not help me with the floating text in WordPress. Can you please help me with that? That is a glitch outside of my theme. Thank you.

I’m sorry but that’s a theme issue. We do not support commercial themes as you paid for support when you bought the theme. It is not our place to keep theme vendors in business or deprive them of any income that they may derive from support services.

I asked and was told that’s a WP issue, especially because the floating text was there before I ever used a commercial theme. It was there when I used Twenty eleven, or one of those WP themes.

Can you replicate the problem using the Twenty Eleven theme with all plugins deactivated?

I’m sorry, I’m new and I don’t know what you mean by that. When I’m signed in to WP and I go to my site, the gray text, “ginacharles.com | a comment symbol | +New | Edit Page… and on the right… “Howdy Ginacharles” is just floating a few inches below the top of the page on top on my header. Also, from that text upward is all one big link. It links to the same place as the one link does that I have in my footer.

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

I will try those things – thank you! I’ll write back if they don’t work.
    Thank you!
