Hi, we use woocommerce on our wordpress site and I believe that we need to add a shipping extension, but I do not know which one.
I need for customers to be able to choose either an option to have the item shipped or an in store pick up option. I need shipping costs calculated for the shipping option, but there will be no shipping charge for in-store pickup.
Some items will only be available for in-store pick up, so for those items I need to be able to disable to option to have them shipped.
We mail gift cards for free, so for that item the only option should be “free shipping,” with no in-store pickup option.

Basically I need to be able to put my products in to three categories: Free shipping, in-store pick up only, and paid shipping OR in-store pick up.
For the last option, the customer needs to be able to choose an option during checkout, and shipping costs need to be calculated and charged IF they choose the shipping option.

Thank you very much for an recommendations that you have!!

    Hi,

before you install plugin for shipping, check shipping classes in WooCommerce:
    https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/product-shipping-classes/

I think they should help you to set up products to shipping methods.

Thank you. I read the article on shipping classes and am still confused. I think I’m understanding that I can make three shipping classes, one for in store pickup (so not actually shipping), one for shipping, and one for gift cards which mail for free. But what about when I want the customers to chose either shipping or in-store pick up? It says that each product can only have one shipping class.

I also don’t understand why when I set up a shipping zone, the only options are flat rate shipping or local pickup. Isn’t there a way to calculate shipping?

I also don’t understand what assigning a shipping class actually does. Like just because I call a shipping class “pick up in store” or “free shipping” and assign a product to that, how does it actually relate to charging (or not charging) the correct shipping price?

    Hey there!

It sounds like you’re going to need a couple different things to get your shipping setup how you are wanting.

For what you are describing, you will need to have a Free Shipping and a Local Pickup method setup in your zone. You will also need a way to limit free shipping to only gift cards. I’ve seen people use this plugin to do that: https://wordpress.org/plugins/woocommerce-advanced-free-shipping/

For your calculated rates for normal items, there’s many ways to do that. Normally you would use a carrier plugin to do it (like UPS: https://woocommerce.com/products/ups-shipping-method/?aff=10486&cid=1131038 for instance). There are many different carrier integrations on WooCommerce.com for you to choose from.

Hopefully that helps! Have a great one!

We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’m going to mark this as resolved – if you have any further questions, you can start a new thread.
