• I am loving this plugin . . . mostly.

I am using this plugin to restrict pages and it works perfectly . . . except I basically need to create a new role for every user to get them exactly what they need.

I have about 10 page/post types/classifications that need access restrictions.

So multiple roles per user would be perfect. A user could be assigned roles 1, 4, 5, and 9 and then see any page that should show to 1, 4, 5, or 9 roles.

But since I cannot assign multiple roles, I’d have to create a role for “1, 4, 5, and 9.” Then all 9 content (for example) needs to be assigned to every role that includes 9, and so one for each type.

You can see how this becomes VERY cumbersome quickly.

Anyone have a good solution for this?

I see Members (different plugin) has this feature but the rest is not at all as nice. But this one feature may mean giving up on this excellent plugin for an inferior one that has the one feature I must have.

I hope someone has a solution!

I see in another thread that perhaps @lenchezzz used Members alongside UM to assign the roles that UM controls. This sounds super sketchy to have two membership plugins running side by side, but maybe she is on to something?

    Hi @j4studios!
Yes, indeed i use 2 plugins. I use Members plugin only and only to create the additional roles i need, otherwise i use UM for anything else.
If i remember correctly i contacted UM before about this and basically got a reply to just use Members for my needs…

Hopefully you’d get a different reply!
Hope it’s already in the works and we will soon have a feature to be able to create multiple roles per user!

    Thank you!
    Have a great day!

    @lenchezzz you are a lifesaver!

I was looking at both plugins and in the EXACT same predicament as you were. I loved UM so much better, but was aaaalmost resigned to go with Members just to assign multiple roles.

Thank you SO MUCH. I’m going to try this out!

Hope you have a great day!

    Hi @j4studios

We use a primary role because we need to set all settings for users assigned to this role. You can assign multiple WP roles to the user using the WP User Role editor or a similar plugin, but you can only set content restrictions for primary user roles.

For example, the user has three roles: Member-A, Member-B, and Member-C. The Member-C role has the highest priority number, which makes it a primary role. This means Member-C has all the settings, including the redirection after login, registration, etc. When you restrict a post/page to make it only visible to Member-A and Member-C, User with Member-C role will be able to access it. But when a user has Member-A and Member-C roles and tries to access a restricted page only visible to Member-A, the user cannot access it because UM can only use the primary UM User Role, which is the Member-C.

I will discuss this as a team and see if we can create a custom code and push it to the upcoming version 3.
