• Hello Mike & thanks for this plugin! Been using it for years w/o issue, along with your contact form.

Been getting reports from readers over the passed couple of months that they can’t comment as they are being flagged as spam after they enter the captcha & submit. The sites’ author also experienced the same when testing, then later that day, I tried commenting from the same ip & did so w/o issue.

The only plugins that I’ve added that are somewhat new are the Social Sharing Toolkit & Print Friendly, & they were added months before we heard any complaints. It’s difficult to test for a plugin conflict as the problem seems intermittent & I would need to rely on readers as well.

Unfortunately, I needed to disable the plugin. I am hoping that you’ll be able to remedy whatever it is that is causing the problem. Let me know if there is anything that I can do. Thanks so much & happy New Year!

    Hi Mike,

Same problem. I noticed this about a week ago (around time WordPress was upgraded): when I login as an administrator I get rejected by SI CAPTCHA as a “Spam Bot”.

I always refresh the code before I login … so I figured I had just made an error typing it in. Always works the second try for me, but now I’ve received emails from irate readers who are taking great umbrage at being called a spam bot :-).

I haven’t done anything to my site recently except upgrade to the latest version of WordPress and updating the plugins that were already on the site.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

    Best, Michael McCarthy

Sorry you are having trouble. I might have already fixed the problem but did not bump the version yet. I needed to have someone test. Please if you have time, help me make sure it is correct. deactivate and remove the plugin then install again fresh. You will have fresh code. Then test if the problem is gone. If it needs any more fixes it will take me a couple days because of New Years

    Hi,

    Deactivated.

    Deleted.

    Installed latest version (2.7.6.2)

But when I activated it, I received this message:

You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ‘TYPE=MyISAM’ at line 9 on line: 1473

    Best,
    Michael

That is a strange error because my plugin does not have any MySQL statements in it

    Hmmm.

    I’ll think on it.

Let me know if anyone else see’s this message.

    Thanks again, M

+1. Started seeing the issue after upgrading to WP 3.5. No new plugins installed.

The error message that comes back from the server to the person commenting is:

    ERROR: Possible spam bot
    Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, cgiadmin@yourhostingaccount.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

The error in my server log is:

    20130102T122807: http://www.XXXXX.com/wp-content/plugins/si-captcha-for-wordpress/captcha/securimage_show.php
PHP Warning: session_start(): open(/var/php_sessions/sess_e845c3588461b997cb6f61b9448b0f7c, O_RDWR) failed: No such file or directory (2) in /hermes/waloraweb053/b2366/hoc.XXXXX/wp-content/plugins/si-captcha-for-wordpress/captcha/securimage.php on line 482

Thanks in advance for taking a look!

That session error means your server needs repair , have your web host fix the broken sessions folder. Also There is a captcha setting to make it work without sessions

    Hey Mike,

Been following along here since I dropped the OP. So, do you think you solved the problem? I didn’t notice an update since I’ve posted this thread.

Thanks so much for your prompt attention!

Yes this should be fixed. try the latest update.
    2.7.6.3

(05 Jan 2013) – added new setting “Enable honeypot spambot trap”. Enables empty field and time based token honyepot traps. For best results, do not enable unless you have a spam bot problem. Does not stop human spammers.
    – fixed some bugs

    Mike,

I upgraded earlier to the latest version, and now none of the administrators are able to log into our site. We all get the following message:

    ERROR: Possible spam bot

How do we get back into our site? Please help! Thanks, JB

I can’t log in either and get the same error.

    Not a good situation.

I couldn’t log into my WP account either because of the admin login CAPTCHA. I fixed it by renaming the “si-captcha-for-wordpress” folder under the “plugins” directory to disable it. I could then login and run the SI CAPTCHA update that was available.
