  • Karen,

There are quite a few solutions out there to help keep sites “members-only” or private. It’s perhaps not a question of a holy grail as much as a wide range of plugins to try and see what suits you best!

If you set up a multisite install then All-In-One Intranet can keep all those sites private from people who are not logged in, and one user account can access all sub-sites of which you make them a member.

Please note you would need the premium version of the plugin to be able to run it on a multisite installation.

    I hope this helps!

    Hey Dan,

    Thanks for the response!

I installed the basic version but have not had a chance to play with it yet. However I did notice that the site on which I installed it only shows a WP sign-on screen. Is this meant to be used with another plugin? In other words, when someone gets to the screen how are they supposed to create a WP account, or understand what is going on?

The plugin is really designed for a corporate environment where the users are all known in advance (i.e. all employees, or perhaps all staff/students in a school).

It is often used in conjunction with our Google Apps Login plugin that ensures everyone in the company (for example) can automatically have a WordPress account based on their Google Email accounts – which they generally already have.

If you are trying to build a site that is designed to attract new members – maybe even paying customers – then you might be better off looking at various ‘Members’ plugins that are available, perhaps providing some areas of the site for free and then inviting people to register if they want to see more.
