Support » Networking WordPress » Multiple networks, restricting BuddyPress to only one, sharing a TLD?

  • So I’m using the Multi-Network plug-in, and I’m wondering about the following scenario:

    I want two networks.
Network 1: This is for my personal websites, so there won’t be any other users, and I just want it to be a normal following
Network 2: I want to install BuddyPress here, so it onlyaffects the sites in this network. It’s going to function, hopefully, as a forum/social network for a group of my friends. I don’t want BuddyPress to touch Network 1– it only works on a network-activate basis, but could that be restricted to Network 2 only instead of the super-network?

Also: I want them both to run off of mywebsite.com. For example:
Network 1: Some sites would be, gardening.mywebsite.com, family.mywebite.com, etc.
Network 2: At least one site would be ourforum.mywebsite.com.

Is it possible to share the domain in this way between two networks?

but could that be restricted to Network 2 only instead of the super-network?

Nope. Buddypress is global to the install. User woudl have mywebsite.com/username.

You could make the base one of the other sites. Dunno why you’d need two networks if all you want is subdomains though.
