[Resolved] Multiple installations in subdirectory

Not sure if this is the right thread. Apologies for any mistake…

I already have a WordPress installation in a sub directory. Can I have another installation in another sub directory inside this sub directory?

For example, I’ve one installation at example.com/planets. Now can I do another install to example.com/planets/earth?

It seems that this isn’t directly possible as my Fantastico installer gives me the error message that the path is invalid. However, I’m new to these things and expect that someone could help.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Sure 🙂 You can totally do this with Multisite. If you activate it and make it a subfoler install, that’s what you’ll get 😀

Thanks. However, as I understand, WordPress multisite will not work if you’ve installed WordPress in a subdirectory. I can create example.com/a, example.com/b etc, but I don’t think I can create example.com/a/1, example.com/a/2 etc using multisite.

Also, I’m not much a fan of multisite. I would like to have nested installs, if that’s possible. Would you please let me know how to do this, if it’s possible? At least I think that auto-installers do not support this.

Found the answer myself and now I understand that my inexperience with WordPress led to the question. The nested installation I mentioned is supported. However, some one-click installers wouldn’t let you do so. In such cases you’ll have to do a manual install.
