Multiple Image Directories? (5 posts)

I've searched through all the "hacks" and "how-to" threads, and I may have missed this answer, but:
Are there any hacks to have multiple image directories with the current "file upload" feature? let's say you have a news site and you want to seperate your images according to their category, instead of having them all jumbled in a single directory, have an image directory according to their category.
    Hope that makes sense!

hmm, let me make this sound simpler:
I want to be able to upload images through wordpress into different directories instead of just one directory, is this currently possible?
    Thank you in advance!
btw, wordpress turns my girlfriend on.

Per se, no I don't think so, but it can be hacked in rather easily, provided you give the specific version number you plan to use, since upload functionality changed a lot between 1.01 and the current nightly builds.

    hey there!
I am using the current build of wordpress 1.0.2-blakely. So it is obviously possible to have multiple directories to upload to?

...hmm, I would be inclined to write up a hack for you, but I'm using 1.01 and since what I've read implies that the hack wouldn't work on your version ... there's no point in me proceeding. However, I can push you in the right direction....
First, you would simply input the multiple directories as is into the system by separating them with pipes (|) or commas (,). Naturally, this would break the system as it stands right now. However, you would then edit up your upload.php to break the list of directories up into a simple form drop-down using the split() function. Voila.
