Ok, in a strange turn of events the options errors appear to be gone, fixed themselves, don’t ask me how. Still getting the errors on the permalinks page.
And it’s back again. It seems to happen whenever the blog address is changed.
The options-permalink.php problem still persists with version 2.8.2.
I’m having this issue as well and think it may be related to not being able to preview. I’m in 2.8.4
i am having this error in permalinks options aswell. it seems to be an error because of the wordpress subdomains and wp-united plugin cant work together.
if anybody can help solving this would be great

I’m not using either of those plugins. This problem occurs on a clean install with nothing added.

also says htacess not writeable even though tried 666 and 777
I’ve tried de-activating all plugins but the error message still there.
I just did the auto upgrade from 2.8.2 to 2.8.4 and the error message still there. Site works fine, just getting this error message on permalinks page which doesn’t look good for clients!
Any ideas anyone????
I’m getting it too (2.8.4, no plugins). There’s a bug in whatever is trying to figure out your http root directory. For me, it should be:
/var/www/vhosts/nicoleandmyles.com/httpdocs
So .htaccess should be:
/var/www/vhosts/nicoleandmyles.com/httpdocs/.htaccess

I ran into this problem and it was a bad theme. Change out your theme if you haven’t.
I make a copy of the default theme and customise from there…
