Hi, jandghomes, & welcome. My first thought is–where is the addon domain redirecting to? If it’s redirecting to the same place as your first domain, i.e., the root of your public_html folder, as an example, then, yes–the 1 site will mess up the other. I recommend you chec your CPanel & ensure the 2 sites redirect to different locations. In this sort of situation, I really like to install WordPress to its own folder, but it’s not altogether necessary so long as you have the 2 domains redirected differently.
Please let us know if that helps. If it does not, perhaps providing us w/a copy of your .htaccess file will help, in order to see if there are any redirects there that might be causing the problem.
@wyn –
On a GD deluxe plan with cPanel, this is quite simple and easy.
– your main site and domain are in the root of your hosting account
– create a new folder off the root of the hosting account into which you upload the new WP files and folders (or, use the Installatron Applications Installer to install into this folder)
– create a new, empty database for the new WP site (if you didn’t use the Installatron method)
– create a new Addon Domain and point it to this new folder
– wait a bit (this is normal) then run the install
– that’s about it 🙂
Sounds as though you installed the second WP site into the root of the hosting account.
Hi All,
Thanks so much for your quick replies! I looked into what you guys were saying, but it turns out I did install it in a subdirectory folder.
Actually I just turned on my debug mode and it started throwing some internal zend errors out at me. So I researched that (a lot!) and turns out it was my caching plugin that decided to stop working the same second I decided to add another site (quite the coincidence!) Caused me to waste a lot of time thinking that was the problem.
I deleted that plugin and now everything works! Turns out I actually knew what I was doing when it comes to adding another domain to a hosting account. Thank you so much for your awesome help though!
