Multiple Columns for Categories

After filtering through the forums, I’ve come up with nothing that works. I’m trying to put my wp_list_cats() into two different columns, right next to each other. I’ve attempted to do that by using two different wp_list_cats() loops and using “exclude=1, 2, 3” inside of it as a parameter, but it seems that it only lets you loop through it once on the page. Does anyone know of a hack or plugin to separate the categories into two different columns? Thanks
