Multiple Clients on Desktop, and Migrating to Online Servers

Just recently started, and I’m practicing everything with MAMP and WP on my desktop. When I eventually start taking on clients, how do I juggle multiple clients with the desktop setup? Do I create a different database for each one? Do I create a new WordPress folder for each client as well?

Also, how do you migrate your desktop work to an online host? If I had to venture a guess, it would be to export the desktop DB to an sql file, then create a DB on the host’s servers with the same name and import the sql. Then, install WP on the host’s servers and upload the config file and the content folder. Is that close, or am I way off?
