Multi sitewide search (6 posts)

I would love to have the option of a search of the current subsite or the entire website with radiobuttons. I have found three ways to do so.
    1 http://cleverwp.com/wordpress-3-0-multisite-search/
    2 http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wpmu-global-search
    3 http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/multisite-global-search/
    4 Google

1 Supposedly nukes the database when I run out of luck and I can't get the search results styled properly. Moreover, it has no radiobutton choice and I can't manage to add it myself.
    2 Doesn't work with 3.0
3 Doesn't work with MySQL 4.1.21 and I think it will take a while before my host starts offering MySQL 5.xxxxx
4 I don't like the results. There are doubles, misses, archives indexed, etc., so I prefer a WP search.

Do I have an alternative? I prefer not to use the sitewide tags plugin.

  2. You;ve pretty much listed every single free option out there.

Thanks David, it's good to see that there are more people looking for this. It's quite strange that there aren't tons of plugins for this.

TD, I don't like the default Google search results, so I don't think I'll invest in an expensive tool that might also give archives in search results.

I found this plugin, after looking at some of the other options.

It is a branch of the wpSearch plugin. So far, it works really well with wordpress 3 and multisite enabled (I use subdirectories). I'm not sure about mysql4. I'm on mysql5.

Just follow the basic instructions. You have to install in wp-content> mu-plugins directory and enable the plugin options for each blog. The relevance of the results is much better, paging works and not found messages also.

Sofar I have only 2 problems with it:
    - I cannot find a way to exclude certain pages/posts from the results.
    - I cannot find a way to exclude custom post types from the results
    Which is a real problem.
