Support » Networking WordPress » Multi-Site Sub Site Reverts To Default Install

  • Running into an odd problem.

I have a Multi-Site install where I am currently working on a sub-site. The sub-site is in dev and has been progressing without issue.

Yesterday, around 7am (ET) the site was running fine. When I checked about an hour later, all the customizations were gone, and it reverted to the default install. No work was done on the site at all during that time, so this was very strange.

I restored a backup that was taken earlier that morning. As the backup was restoring, I kept checking the subsite to see if the issue resolved. About 30 or so seconds into the restore, the site came back up correctly, only to go back to the default site when I refreshed the page. The same behavior happened even if I restored backups for two, three, and four days ago.

Main site is: https://www.faradiogroup.com. This site hasn’t been developed yet and will show the default install.

Subsite is: https://www.faradiogroup.com/flashbackalternatives. This is the site I am currently developing.

Network Plugins that are installed are CLeanTalk (Anti-Spam and Security), Kadence Blocks, Insert Headers and Footers, and Breeze. As mentioned, all was working fine.

Site is hosted at Cloudways using Vultr. Plenty of RAM and Storage.

I am also working with Cloudways to see if the have any ideas.

    All help/advice is appreciated.

    Thanks

    Ed

  • Something odd is going on here.

When you view the given page’s HTML, you’ll see the theme assets are being loaded from the subsite URL, eg:

    https://faradiogroup.com/flashbackalternatives/wp-content/themes/twentytwentyone/style.css

But the Sitename link in the header, RSS Feed, Recent Posts, Recent Comments, and even the Search form all point to the root/parent domain (primary site), and not the subsite.

So… is the given URL a non-existing page on the primary site, or a subsite homepage with no content? Difficult to say!

    Thanks.

The odd thing is that you can reach the correct site early in the restore process, as described in my original e-mail, but it reverts to the Page Not Found issue when the restore completes. What is even stranger is that this happens no matter when I restore.

    Thanks again.
