• I have an issue where a multi-site setup will periodically stop showing the correct blog for one of the addresses. The main site is https://allthetacos.com which should show my taco blog, but periodically it will start showing my other blog which is set up at http://secretspecial.info — and the only thing that seems to resolve it is for me to log into wp-admin. Any ideas what would be causing this? One of my thoughts is that auto updating might change something that doesn’t resolve without an actual admin login but I’m not sure where to look to see if I can confirm my suspicions.

  • You are saying that the ‘tacos’ site is the main site but from what I see you have a redirect running for the tacos domain that looks like it is pointing toward the ‘secretspecial’ site that you seem to be saying should be the subsite of your multisite.

I’m actually wondering if maybe you have a pair of WordPress installs running there, a redirect for reasons I can’t fathom, and there isn’t really a WordPress multisite there as defined by the multisite documentation…

Your webhost might be the best help for this problem.

@jnashhawkins I originally had multiple installs. I changed the ‘tacos’ site to a multisite installation, then I did an import of the ‘secretspecial’ content to the newly created subsite. I don’t see a redirect happening at the browser level — e.g. it’s still showing the domain for the taco site instead of the secretspecial site when it happens. I’m not sure if my host will be able to help considering it seems to be an issue with what site WordPress decides to serve.

As a workaround, I was recommended to move the multi-site’s main/hub to a dummy blog and make the taco blog a child, and that seems to have at least mitigated the issue for the taco blog. I was still able to reproduce the issue with the dummy blog’s URL serving the personal blog after WordPress updated before I logged into the admin panel again. It’s still something I’d like to debug and work on fixing, but not as urgent a problem as before.

I’m having the issue again, but now it’s with a new sub-site that I migrated to the network from its own install. Yesterday before upgrading WordPress, the new main site itsdaves.site was serving secretspecial.info instead of the hub site. After the WP update it seemed fine. Now I see that the newly migrated site, blog.davesmapper.com, was starting to serve itsdaves.site instead. I checked for updates, didn’t see any, and did a ‘Network Upgrade’ just to be sure. Now blog.davesmapper serves secretspecial.info instead. It’s starting to get really confusing as to which site will be served at any given moment on any of the domains and I’m not sure how to continue troubleshooting.
