Multi-site + mirror of site (3 posts)

We launched a website for a client about a month ago and are experiencing some issues. Not knowing our clients IT person setup their intranet using their domain name. Their intranet and domain are hosted one place and the website is at another. The issue is internal computers cannot access the website, however all external computers/devices can.

Let me say upfront it is not an option to have their IT redo their intranet properly to not use their public domain name (that would be easy and the right way to resolve this issue).

We wanted to setup a mirror of the site in which internal staff would be able to access the site. However, we have not been able to accomplish this. The site is a multi-site and as I mentioned, the domain is hosted on a different server/provider.

The goal of the mirror site is to provide employees access to the site since they aren't able to use the main/public domain.

let's say the site was http://www.mycompany.com
we want a mirror of that site to be accessed by using something like http://www.mirror.mycompany.com

Can anyone advise on how to accomplish this?

Wow, complicated situation you have there. If I didn't misunderstand anything you wrote (forgive me, if I did) then it sounds like you need to clone the entire Multisite network and create a secondary network with duplicate content using a subdomain of the main domain, is that correct?

If so, is the current Multisite network a Subdomain set up or subdirectory? I am trying to wrap my head around the whole situation before I provide any concrete steps to how to resolve your dilemma. Thanks!

You nailed it with the complicated part. Thanks for being willing to share your expertise!

Good choice of words when you use "clone" that is exactly what we are trying to do.

Let me see if I can explain this without being too confusing. I will use generic names for the domain (nameofsite) as that might help. The site is hosted at pair.com and is the only site right now on this server. The files are in the publichtml/nameofsite.pairserver.com

There is currently only one site in the multi-site install. Phase 2 of this project was to install a branded library/knowledge bank.

The domain name is hosted by another company and we don't have direct access to that admin area. This is made complicated because two organizations make up the one website. The company that has the domain and intranet won't give us direct access but can make any change we need.

Within the WordPress we have the domain name using http://www.nameofsite.com

    Does this help?
