I had successfully enabled Network, and went to create my first site, but the site was called databaseblog, where database is the name of the database and blog is the name I gave to the blog. It seems to concatenate these all together, but clicking “Visit” brings up my ISP’s search page (due to the malformed URL, which is http://domain.comdatabaseblog, with no slash between .com and databaseblog).

Anyone else stumble onto this? Is there a simple fix?

  • I just installed multisite recently. Had a very smooth install and nothing like you said happened to me. And I followed the instructions from the codex too. I don’t think it would be a bug, it should be something that you did wrong while installing WP3.

I followed the instructions from here:
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network

There was a host with a one-clikc wordpres installed that inserted a value in the wp-config.php file that conflicts with the site names.

Go look in your wp-config.php, way at the bottom – does it bay $base = databasename? If so, take it out.

Thanks, Andrea; you were correct. I commented out the lines added by the host and all is well. However, this might be linked to automatic upgrades (in the host’s panel), so, if anyone else runs into this, be careful. I would comment the line(s) out, create your new blog, then uncomment those lines. The new blog should continue working; however, I do not know if leaving them uncommented will break anything else later on. I have added a post to the new blog, with the lines uncommented, with success.

Are you on Dreamhost? If so, they are aware of the issue.

They may be aware of it, but they are taking their time fixing it. I think you told them about it in June when 3.0 went live. I converted all my sites to a WPMS a week or so ago and it still wasn’t fixed. (I’m even domain mapping some of them 🙂 )
