  • Hi!

I’ve done backup of my site by copying files from ftp.
Unfortunatelly i didnt make a copy of database from phpMyAdmin.

Is there a way to bring back all my files from a zip to a new server without copy of database?

Maybe I can get back database from copied WP files?

@edit: old server and database gone

  • Hi, @m1lokk

It’s possible to copy all of your files from a zip to a new server, but your settings & content (posts, pages etc) are stored in your database. Without that, you’ll start with a fresh WordPress installation.

Maybe you could reach your old hosting provider and ask for an older backup?

    Kind regards!

Old server has burned down in a fire so it impossible to bring back lost files/databases.

So without a database my backup of all files from server is useless?

    I’m sorry to hear that.

Unfortunately, without the database, there is no information about how to use those files and no content.

I guess the answer is no, but did your host made any local backups for your database? If so, those files should be in the zip you have.

Similar, if you had any backup plugins that made backups and save them locally, also those should be somewhere in the wp-content folder.

If not, there’s not much you can do.

You can try using or or to manually retrieve the text content for each page you had – if it was cached by any of these services. That way you can get some data back.

I know this is not the time to hear this, but please consider regular offline full backups in the future.

Hope you manage to recover some content.
    Wishing you best of luck!
