# Moving WordPress to root directory.

 * Okay, I’ve given up on trying to redirect. I’ve decided to move WordPress to 
   the root directory instead. But I’m having trouble with this step:
 * > If you are using Permalinks, go to the Administration > Settings > Permalinks
   > panel and update your Permalink structure to your .htaccess file, which should
   > be in the same directory as the main index.php file.
 * How do I update my Permalink structure to my .htaccess file?

 * esmi, NOTHING WORKS. I’ve tried redirecting the root directory, moving WordPress,
   everything. I’ve followed the steps in Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory a thousand
   times. I keep having to follow the directions at Changing_The_Site_URL to put
   it back at [http://thehandshakemagazine.com/home](http://thehandshakemagazine.com/home).
   It’s a real pain in the neck.
    We want to launch our website, but are waiting
   to get this fixed. Do you have any other ideas? Thanks.
