we are looking to move to a more reliable dedicated server company, currently we have one running plesk, however after hearing all the horror stories of trying to use plesk to migrate the websites to a new server, i was wondering if there was another way, got 3 sites on the server running WP and woo

we considered copying all the files over to new server and then importing the mysql file for the database but on past experience of this there was a lot of tweeking and a lot of images simply never moved with the file

any advice would be most welcome

Try on a test site or a local install (WAMP, XAMP, etc) first so that you can know the real problems that awaits you. A little bit of tweeking and images or something else missing may happen occasionally.

I was just reading the codex and it states

"If you are changing to a new server but same domain, all you need to do is edit wp-config.php with your new database/user information and upload everything as it is to your new server."

with this in mind would we still need to make a zip of the current database and import it or not ?
