• I have seen quite a few posts on this subject but nothing definitive.

I have a client that I am developing a new WordPress site for but they don’t want me to overwrite the old HTML site while I’m working on the new WP site. I don’t want to work months on the new WP site and then “UGH!” have problems or loose all my work when I try to move WordPress site to the root folder.

Can anyone tell me the best way to go about this? Or if you have successfully done this I’d like to know the correct steps. I have read some posts where people had to start all over again and I don’t want this happening to me.

    Thanks for any help!

  • I develop on my local machine, then move things to a subdomain (like “dev.url.com”) so the client can interact with the site before it officially launches.

Moving WordPress is easy, just follow the steps: Moving_WordPress
