 * OK I am not sure about what to do and most of the info is in the new location
   but not all.
 * Here are the facts.
 * Old blog was at blog.domain.org
    New blog is at [http://www.domain.org/news](http://www.domain.org/news)
 * I imported an XML file which worked, but some stuff is missing like the header
graphic, and subscribe2 plugin and users.
As it was importing it listed a LOT
   of stuff missing.
 * I do have a DB file, but it’s named wrong.
 * Should I also restore DB on the server?
Should I change the name of the DB file
   to match what is there?
 * What am I better off doing?
 * What else do I need to do to get everything working again.

 * OK all my media is missing so that means all the pictures that go with the posts
   are not there.
 * What to do? Are these inside the DB?

 * Is it possible for you to restore back to where you started, and then follow
   the guide at [https://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress#Changing_Your_Domain_Name_and_URLs](https://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress#Changing_Your_Domain_Name_and_URLs)?

 * Actually I asked because I had trouble with those directions.
    What I need is
to restore MEDIA. which contained graphic and PDF files.
 * I have now been able to restore most of the site using an imported .xml file
and manual adjustments such as reinstalled a lost plugin Subscribe2 (I had the
names of the subbers thank goodness) and the widgets (thank God for Way Back
Machine, as I had important text widgets on the sidebar that disappeared) but,
although all the embedded videos are there, I have lost all my ‘media’, which
contained important logos, charts and graphs and other things that were crucial
   to each post.
 * I wonder, are those things stored in the DB that the past host sent me? I would
have backed up my uploads folder myself, but he did not allow me into the FTP…
which I knew was not good.
 * If he has not yet deleted my files, he can send me the uploads folders, if not,
   I might be screwed.
 * If that is true that the media is in the database, I will set up another blog
using the old URL format and upload that DB just so I can grab the media..
 * I am desperate at this point.

 * The reason I asked earlier is because that XML file only contains post/page/comment
   content, nothing else.
 * If you want to move over the media, plugins, themes, and settings, you need to
mve both the installation’s files and database.
 * Speaking specifically of Media, the files are in the `/wp-content/uploads/` directory,
and the database contains the library/catalogue which tells WordPress where each
   one is.

 * OK I managed to find the text that was missing from the widget using WAY BACK
search, reinstalled the Subscribe2 and re subbed the people who’s names I had
in a list, and used the IP address to log into the OLD FTP to grab the uploads
   from 2013-2016.
 * Not the best way to do it, but I could not figure out how to get the old DB in
there, as it was named wrong.
 * The weird thing is, I can get the pics to show up on the posts by fixing the
URLs, but they don’t appear in the media section.
 * Thanks.

 * Since you won’t be simply bringing the database over (the name doesn’t matter,
you just restore the database to the server and adjust the wp-config.php file
as necessary), you’ll need to run this plugin to add the media files back into
   the library: [https://wordpress.org/plugins/add-from-server/](https://wordpress.org/plugins/add-from-server/)

 * Today I am having a different issue.
 * I moved the site files and adjusted the config but someone went in to the old
site and changed the HOME URL. Even though I uploaded the old DB files to the
new one in the SQL manager, I am not getting the site to load properly.
 * I went into the DB and changed the site URL in two places (site and home)
 * I wish I had steps written out, too confusing.
 * Old site was in the same folder as the new site.
