 * Hi,
 * We’ve just completed a site which we’re moving from a sub directory on the server
   to the root directory.
 * I’ve asked this question previously and had some useful (but complicated) responses.
 * I’m currently trying this plug in which seems to do what I need (ie update the
   database so it replaces all urls so the site doesn’t revert back to the sub folder
   where we developed it. Instead refers to the root directory).
 * I have backed up all databases just in case.
 * But what I need to be certain of is this:
    The plug in asks me to “search for”
   and “replace with”
 * Not 100% what to enter there. The sub folder is called “newsite” and I need to
   remove that so it refers to the root directory.
 * Would it work if I entered for example:
    Search for “[http://www.mysite.co.uk/newsite/*&#8221](http://www.mysite.co.uk/newsite/*&#8221);
   Replace with “[http://www.mysite.co.uk/*&#8221](http://www.mysite.co.uk/*&#8221);
 * Thanks for any advice in advance.

 * Does anyone have any experience of this.
 * It’s getting urgent and I’d really appreciate some advice.

 * Since you have backups, you can just try it out.
 * I’m not familiar with the plugin, but it may not support wildcards, so you might
   want to leave off the *

 * Unfortunately that hasn’t worked.
 * Maybe it’s better to do it through phpmyadmin?

 * The situation at the moment is that I’ve moved all the files for the new site
   to the root directory.
 * When you put in the domain name in the browser you go to the correct index page
   but when you click on any of the links you’re sent back to the “newsite” directory.
 * Obviously the database hasn’t updated to the new urls.

 * It’s probably easier to export the database as a .sql file, do a search and replace
   with any text editor, then import it back.
 * Remember to backup first.
