    Hi all,

I have been developing my WP site on a dev.* subdomain and I am just about ready to send it live on the main www. site. Can anyone advise me on the best way to do the transition, given all of the internal links that refer to dev.* instead of www.*? Changing everything manually wouldn't be pleasant, so good to avoid if anyone has a trick?

    Cheers,
    Wade

The best way is to download the current database, do a search/find/replace, and then replace the current database with the changes you've made. This way, you don't have to to do a hunt and peck.

    Right, thanks Joshua.

Might be something to get a professional to do for me, to be sure I avoid headaches. :)

    Cheers,
    Wade

Just as a note... Don't do a manual search-and-replace on your DB! The reason for this is that WordPress saves a whole lot of values as serialised arrays, and changing these without knowing exactly what you are doing can break your site.

The best tool that I've found to do the search-and-replace so far is this DB search and replace tool. I use it to change the URL for every site that I send live, and I've had no problems with it so far. Just follow the instructions and you'll get it done eaisly.
