[Resolved] moving the plugin to the sidebar
Odd one. I’m unable to replicate it and I’m on the newest version of WordPress (3.8). Can you drag other widgets or just mine? I suspect there could be a conflict somewhere. Not 100% sure though.
Try deactivating all your plugins bar mine and drag it one by one. Also try switching to a theme like Twenty Twelve and trying again.
Should clarify, deactivate all plugins bar mine, try to see if it drags, then one by one reactivate them.
that still did not work for me— just to clarify, am i trying to move the widget to the LEFT sidebar—- (where “Posts” “Pages” “Settings” “APpearance” all are?
I cannot figure this out—- thank you for more specific instrux–
i did the first two steps in your 3 step instruction page on setting up confirmation page and subscription pages— but step three didn’t happen…. then I went to the website and tried the pages and they were blank, no place to sign in, no link to click on- so am wondering what to do…thankyou-
Right okay! Makes a bit more sense.
You’re trying to move the WP Email Capture menu to the administration sidebar, correct?
So everything that is in your domain.com/wp-admin?
Right. You cannot do that straight off. It’s a WordPress thing, but I’ve found this plugin – https://wordpress.org/plugins/admin-menu-editor/ – which could do what you wanted.
Please note – I’ve not made this plugin and have nothing to do with it, so am unable to offer support on this plugin.
I don’t know if I should be moving it there- I am asking you if I SHOULD be doing that—?
I am only trying to make the capture plugin function—- and step three in your explanation says to
go to APPEARANCES > WIDGETS
and then it says to “move the WP Email Capture widget to the sidebar”
I am asking if that sidebar is the list on the left with all the admin commands such as APPEARANCES< POSTS< PAGES etc
is that correct?
Sorry about that. Got confused.
Have a read of this – http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Widgets
It isn’t there you should be adding it to. There should be panels to the RIGHT which are the widget areas associated with your blog.
See this image – http://codex.wordpress.org/File:widget-panel.png
You want to be dragging the WP Email Capture widget the Primary Sidebar/Content Sidebar/Footer Widget Area, dependant on where you want the WP Email Capture widget to appear.
They may be called different names, dependant on your theme you are using.
I dragged it to the “Footer Widgets Left”
and clicked save
then I visited the site to see how it would work
unfortunately the Sign up and sign up conf. pages, which before were showing up but with nothing substantive on them, are now not showing up at all.
hmmmm….i’m hopeless! Oh well. I live in Hong Kong and it is 11pm so I’m off to bed…. will continue to try in the morn. thanks. any insight would be appreciated. sorry to be such an idiot. thank you, Rob
……hmmm, what theme are you using? That would be my guess.
Also any errors showing?
And don’t worry, everybody was a beginner once 🙂
no errors showing– except when I go to the “signup page” (you call it subscription) and the signup confirmation page (you call it subscription confirmation) it says “page not found”
I use a theme from the GUERILLA THEME group.
I don’t know what to do. I would like to stay with you because you provide excellent support- however I need to have an email capture by tomorrow—- so I will try any suggestions you have at this time— but if they don’t work I will have to get another capture plugin. I am very sorry as you are kind and helpful and this looks like a great plugin. Maybe not compatible with my theme? anyway thanks…..
Hmmmm….. should be fine. Do the pages exist for signup page and signup confirmation page? They should be created pages in your site (i.e. Pages > Add New).
