My client has an Avada theme site and she wants to re-order the product categories in WooCommerce. I tried to move them in the admin area, using the right-side drag and drop mover, but nothing is moving. It looks like it will drag and drop, moving the other categories to drop in, but the page refreshes and nothing has moved. I’ve asked on the Avada Facebook group, and I’m asking here.

Anyone seen this kind of behavior and have an idea why it’s not working right? I’ve done some searches here and I’m finding more about product movement than category movement.

  • Hello,

Are you trying to change the order of the category list in the widget area such as side bar? If so, please check if “category Order” is selected for Order by.

If you are referring to something different, please share your store URL as well as a screenshot of the section. I recommend https://snipboard.io for easily sharing screenshots – please follow the instructions on the page, then paste the URL in this chat. It works with Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge.

Thanks for answering, maykato. 🙂 I’m doing this in the admin area under Product > Categories. This doesn’t involve widgets. It’s all on the backend where I’m trying to help her.

My client has 336 categories in 10 Parent categories and two levels of subcategories. I’m trying to move the main parent categories into alphabetical order.

Here is a screen shot of attempting to move one of them above the other, but it doesn’t change. It looks like it’s processing with the little circle icon to the left, the screen refreshes and all is as it was, no change.

    Hello,

Thank you for clarifying. By default, when you display categories on shop page, they should appear in the same order as you set under Product > Categories, and the child category “Other” shouldn’t show unless you go into the 1800’s to 1900’s category. That said, the issue on your site may be caused by a conflict with a plugin or theme.

    • Temporarily switch your theme to Storefront
    • Disable all plugins except for WooCommerce
    • If you’re not seeing the same problem after completing the conflict test, then you know the problem was with the plugins and/or theme you deactivated. To figure out which plugin is causing the problem, reactivate your other plugins one by one, testing after each, until you find the one causing conflict. You can find a more detailed explanation on how to do a conflict test here.

We’ve not heard back from you in a while, so I’m marking this thread as resolved. Hopefully, you were able to find a solution to your problem! If you have further questions, please feel free to open a new topic.
