moving from subdomain into main domain on cpanel

  • Hi All, I have a ‘moving a blog on same domain’ related query. We have:

    domain.com and blog.domain.com

domain.com points to /public_html/ and blog.domain.com points to /public_html/blog/ on the same cPanel web hosting package.

We want to merge the blog into the main domain, so things look like domain.com/blog/2009/06/post/ to take advantage of relevancy for seo, 301 redirecting every blog post to the new location.

I have it in my head the easiest way is to create /blog2/.htaccess, with all the redirect 301 rules in, and in cPanel change blog.domain.com to point to /blog2/ (I dont think I can do this, change the dir a subdomain points to in cPanel)

I have tried reconfiguring the WP blog to domain.com/blog, then sticking the htaccess redirects into /blog/, it ends up in an infinite loop.

Hope that makes sense and hope someone here can help?
