Moving from 2.9.2 to 3.0 rc1…

    What kind of work am I in store for? It’s a production site, but it’s one that I’m restructuring anyway. I have no desire to lose content and have backed up my database and 2.9.2 files.

    Should my theme transfer over? I’m using Hybrid News theme by Justin Tadlock right now.

    I assume a major issue will be plugin support. My main worry right now is executing PHP code on Pages and Widgets.

    Another major issue, I assume, is how it plays with the database. What will installing 3.0, using the same database, do to my data?

    Is there another big issue I have to worry about?

    your data should be fine. The database will be upgraded during the upgrade

    Themes could be an issue…. I think all the old features will still work, you may not notice anything. Your old theme just wont support new features

    Plugins, that could be a problem, depends on a per plugin basis really.

    Thema and plugin authors will be working to update their stuff tho, may want to wait on the actual official release. But if ya wanna jump the gun it shouldnt be too much problem

    As it relates to themes, what types of new features are you talking about that won’t or may not work?

    The obvious answer: Anything that was added to WP 3 won’t exist in a theme build for 2.9.2 (like the new menu navigation stuff).
