• HI, I’m in the process of moving my site from wordpress.com to a self-hosted wordpress.org site. I was able to import the existing site files and theme to the new site, but none of the configuration/theming carried over (e.g., the carousel is gone, the Facebook/Twitter widgets are missing, the wallpaper isn’t displaying, images in individual posts are missing, etc.). Rather than going back and manually reconfiguring the entire site, is there a way to automate/simplify this process? Any help is much appreciated!

  • No, you can only import content from a WordPress.COM site, so you have to redo the theme set-up. But your images should have been included in the import.

Not what I wanted to hear, but thanks. The images and text did carry over.

Do I need to download plugins for Twitter, Facebook, video display, etc.? Any suggestions on plugin downloads to retain wordpress.com functionality? Thanks!

Yes, what you want there is JetPack – it comes with WP – but you have to activate it under plugins – also see:

Once you have that done, you can also ask the WordPress.COM support people to move your subscribers (assuming your want that done).

Thanks, Wpyogi! I’ll give that a try.
