moving blog to root directory

I recently attempted to move my blog to the root directory as opposed to /wordpress I lost the blog and can no longer access my account on WordPress! I had to create a new one with the same name, it didn’t recognize me. I used fireftp to change the file locations and wonder if they all need to appear on the root directory, or should have the same hierarchy as the download? I also changed the permalink to my root directory http://www.lakeofthemind.com my old site works, but I was attempting to start a blog/dynamic site. Any ideas to find the blog?
