• ok so im really hoping someone here can help me. Im about to throw my computer out the window and just say forget it.

I have my old site on old hosting. it is now connected to a bs domain that doesnt exist (godaddy guy did that) My new hosting is set up with my new website. I just finished tweaking my theme to get it how i want it-all that is left is to transfer over my old blog posts. I ftp’ed to the old host and downloaded the blog folder-but that contains everything including the theme and all that. How do i just transfer over the blog posts content without ruining all the work i just put into the new theme? I cant export anything from the old wordpress because it no longer exists? i just have the blog folder i downloaded from ftp. I hope this makes sense. Anyone know how to transfer the posts or where to even find the posts in the blog folder?

ok-what of that was to me and what was to tom? i am on the phone with my hosting right now-they dont seem to understand that i dont have nor do i want a subdoain. the entire website is wordpress and the blog is just another component. so any posts i add go to the blog-but i just want the posts from my old site to transfer but they cant seem to figure out where they are in the old hosting?

    Katie,

    how about this option:

“’s your content; you can do whatever you like with it. Go to Tools -> Export in your WordPress.com dashboard to download an XML file of your blog’s content. This format, which we call WordPress eXtended RSS or WXR, will contain your posts, pages, comments, categories, and tags.”

    you have tried that?

The old site isnt live-so my content is there but i dont think i have a way to access it through the wordpress dashboard because it doesnt technically exist on a website. does that make sense?

@katie: Do you have a backup file that ends in .sql? Also, who are you using for web hosting?

    godaddy-and i have a file that is a bunch of number.sql

    Katie,

    try this:

I am reading it now as we speak!

@katie: So that .sql file most likely contains the database from your old website.

Here are instructions for restoring your database on GoDaddy.

EDIT: Read all of those instructions carefully! Especially this bit:

    Things to Consider
Before your site can be live on the Internet, you need to update your DNS, which brings your current blog offline. See Setting Nameservers for Your Domain Names for more information.

Sometimes you need to update broken links when you move your WordPress site to a new server. If you find broken images and hyperlinks throughout your site when it’s back online, you might need to clean your site of outdated link paths. For more information, see Fixing Permalink Issues with WordPress.

ok so now i have all my blog posts (all images are not there anymore) on a seperate domain in wordpress. so now that they are on a live site I can move them over?

If you imported the blog posts on a separate domain, you can go to WP-Admin > Tools > Export and export the data, then import it from the same Tools menu on your actual site.
