Support » Fixing WordPress » Moved it, checked it, can’t see it – please help

  • Hello all
Created a WP site on my own server until people said ‘yes please’, so I attempted to move it this morning. Followed the instructions in the WP Docs carefully but while all the files are there, I’m seeing the traditional – Error establishing a database connection – window. I think I did it right but I didn’t, clearly, and it’s my old nemesis wp-config.php, I’m sure.
I have moved all the info from the old DB to the new one, told the file the new names and changed the u/n and p/w to match. There’s something I’m missing, all help appreciated!

  • You moved it to an external host and created the database and entered the database name, database username and database password in wp-config.php?

A common connection issue after migration can occur because the database is sometimes not supported on the same server as the site in the production environment, so DB_HOST is no longer ‘localhost’. If you have not done so, and you have DB_HOST set to localhost, check with the ISP to see what they might be calling the your MySQL host.
