I received wp files and a sql file backup of a partially developed site from another developer. I understand the core files. I’m uploading the files to the new server. I know I need to change the config.

I have a question on the database. The Codex says:
“upload this new database and the copy of the wordpress core files with the edited wp-config.php to your new server.”

But I just want to make sure on the database.

Does “upload this new database” mean to go into myphpadmin and import the sql file? Is that correct?

    Yes – that’s correct.

Thanks much. Cross my fingers that this all works.

Okay. I’ve pushed site files up. Imported the database. Changed the config file. Changed the siteurl.

Getting “Error establishing a database connection”. I’ve checked and triple checked the database settings and they look fine. Any ideas?

Check the database details with your hosts.

I’ve got the site up but can’t get into the admin area. This is not a site that I original created. Is there a way to override the password. I can see the admin user in the database but I believe it’s an encripted password that I’m seeing. I’ve tried to add a user through the database but this isn’t working.

Never mind. I just reset the password by resetting the email first.
