• I’m a bit stuck. I need to move my existing wordpress.com site to self-hosted wordpress on HostGator. I also want to install the Genesis framework on a beta version of my site so that I can work on a redesign – so the existing site is still active, but there’s a separate test version I can play with (and show to friends for their opinion on layout and design).

What’s the best way to do this? Do I need to install WordPress twice to do this?

You can find my blog at akitchencat.com.au

  • Okay, first move your existing site to your new domain. If your hosting allows it, create a subdomain (test.domainname.com or whatever). Install your “test” wordpress site there. Do your testing/development there and when you like what you got, copy it over to your “live” site.

So yes, two different WordPress installations (and two different databases).

I can’t seem to import my site at all – I get up to the Import option, then I get a blank screen. It says ‘step 2’ in the URL but I don’t get anything on screen.

    URL – http://akitchencat.com.au/wp-admin/admin.php?import=wordpress&step=2
