move blog from ***.wordpress to urbanwriter.net (using WordPress)

    Install4free did a great job of getting the urbanwriter.net/wordpress up on Bluehost, but my attempts to FTP the “wordpress.php to wp-admin/import/” thingy gives me an error message that says only upper and lower case letters, and numbers are allowed… I’ve never FTP’d in my life, and have so many windows open I’m going to freeze in here.

    Seems really easy to import from any other blog going to WordPress, and unbelievably difficult (when you have no idea what you are doing) to import your own wordpress.2006-09-18.xml file, which is sitting here on my Macintosh OS 10.4 desktop.

    Any help, suggestions, caveats, whatever would be appreciated.

    If I remember well, the import from a wordpress.com blog should go like:
    admin > Import > RSS
    Browse YOUR computer where the xml file is…
    and follow the prompts.

    In about 4 clicks I made up for 3 or 4 hours of effort, indignation, and frustration.
