This plugin is fairly useful and can force you to write better content, especially if you’re lazy like me. However, on submitting the sitemap to Google, it transpires there is an XML error in one of the site-maps generated by Yoast SEO.

In particular, I get an error in the post-sitemap.xml where a required tag is missing: url tag is missing from the urlset tag. As properly formed XML is essential for it to be effective (especially in something like a sitemap), I’m sure this can be fixed easily for an upcoming update. If the plugin is installed before any posts are published, it should be able to still render well-formed XML.

And the rich results element misforms the Logo element of Organization. The element should provide a uri for Logo, instead, it provides an object that is not recognized by Google.

    Hi @redcentaur,

    Thanks for your comment.

We are sorry to hear you’re having problems with the Yoast SEO plugin.

The error you got usually appears when the sitemap contains zero items. Please, refer to this help article for more information. If you haven’t published any posts yet, you may want to disable the generation of the post-sitemap.xml by going to SEO > Search Appearance > Content Types and toggle the “Show Posts in search results?” button to No.

If you do have posts published but they don’t appear in the post-sitemap.xml, you may need to clear any caches you may have on your website.
