"More" Tag Not Working For Posts on 3.8.1?

  • I’ve just started working with WordPress and I am using 3.8.1. I am taking tutorials to learn it and one of the tutorials discussed the More tag, so I thought I would try it, and it doesn’t appear to work for me.

(I don’t know how to post pics here and there is no preview, so i will provide link to my Photobucket.)

I clicked the correct button in the Visual box, and the “more” designation appears in the text box, as you can see here (green circles):

But when I publish, it does not appear where it should (red arrow):

Am I not doing something correctly, or is this a bug?

  • BTW, when I click over to the Text tab, the tag looks like this:

    <!–more–>

what theme are you working with?

What theme are you using? Where did you download it from?

    I’m using 2014.

Can you post a link to a publically accessible page that demonstrates this issue? The more tag seems to be working for everyone else when using the 2014 theme.

Sure, here’s the page on my site:

Is this sufficient? What else can I send to you that won’t cede full control of my site to the public?

your link is to a single post where by default the ‘read more’ tag does not have effect; the ‘read more’ will only have effect on index pages or archive pages.

for example, if you go to the ‘blog’ page, you can see that the post is cut-off properly at the ‘read more’ position.

That’s it! So it does work. And very strange that you’re not able to see it in preview or single post mode.

    Thanks!

So… If I have a static home page, and I want a “read more” on that page, how do I set that up?
