More numbers than widgets in sidebar
Hi, I’ve got something strange going on. Today I noticed the total number of positions for widgets in the sidebar, is larger than the actual widgets displayed in the sidebar itself. Normally this amount of numbers/positions should be equal to the number of widgets actually installed.
I removed all disabled widgets, but no difference. I really have no clue what to do about this. Any help would be appreciated.
Many themes have a limit to the number of widgets in a widget area…review with theme dev. If not a theme issue, reset widget area by:
A) Take note of widget locations. Drag all widgets to inactive. Load site in browser multiple pages/posts.
B) Switch to default unedited theme. Load site in browser multiple pages/posts.
C) Switch back to your theme. Load site in browser multiple pages/posts.
D) Drag widgets back. Load site in browser multiple pages/posts.
If not that, remove one widget at a time to find an offending one.
the total number of positions for widgets in the sidebar
where do you get that number from?
if this is something in the dashboard, can you provide a screenshot?
what theme are you working with?
Sorry, I forgot to mention it’s in the admin panel, under the options for widgets. If you install or edit a widget, you can choose a number for the position. The count of those numbers are larger than the actual widgets. I noticed the dashboard also displays more widgets than actually installed on the line how many widgets were installed.
Problem solved! I tried to switch to the default theme, there the widget count was normal. After that, I activated my own theme again en voila, the widget count is back to normal! If I knew before it would be that simple… Something to keep in mind in case something goes wrong again. Thanks for the help anyway!
That’s going to be very theme-specific functionality. What theme are you using?
