• Sliders were created in June and July but this month Metaslider started to exhibit 2 strange symptoms despite no changes having been made:

    1) photos changed size in the presentation;
    2) Metaslider’s page in WordPress gave an error message that every photo in a slider didn’t exist, even though they did and trying to add them said they already existed!.

    The solution was to create an empty 08 folder in /uploads/2014 which, because of file permissions, Metaslider couldn’t create itself.

    My question is, does Metaslider need to create a new folder each month and if so, why? Why does the lack of such a folder result in the above symptoms?

  • Hi Steve,

    When did these problems start happening?

    Meta Slider will only create a new image when the correctly sized image does not already exist on the server. If it needs to create one and save it into the folder for the current month.

    On one WordPress blog, at midnight on the first of each month a new uploads directory is created. Those directories remains empty.

    On another blog where a new directory is not allowed to be created, Metaslider showed the symptoms in my post above. Manually creating the directory made the symptoms vanish but no new images were created in that directory. Deleting the directory renewed the symptoms.

    The correct sized images are already on the server in 06, 07 directories and the system worked perfectly in July. The problem started in August. The manually created 08 directory is still empty, with it all working, showing that new images are not required.

    Update: MetaSlider stopped working properly on 1st January 2015. This was because it could not find a 2015 directory in /uploads so was unable to create a 01 subdirectory giving the symptoms in my first post.

    Creating a 2015 directory manually with correct permissions solved the problem, and MetaSlider created then an empty 01 subdirectory. The symptoms disappeared.

    So it appears that every January, I need to manually create the year directory.
