[resolved] Monthly backups works every day (25 posts)

I've set the backup for both database and files to be monthly, but it's backing up every day.
I saw there's already an issue for it here and it has the status "Resolved" but I don't see a solution there.
    What's the solution?
    Thanks!

    Any word on a solution?

you're right but it seems they don't provide an actual support and this is key. I am waiting to get a response from the authors for a while now. very disappointed.

well that does it...apparantly, was the plugin not only doing daily backups instead of monthly backups...it was also not deleting any backups even though i had it set to store no more than 5 on the server.

gave me a pretty big scare when i suddenly started getting internal server errors and was unable to load the site because the server was full.

    never using this plugin again.

    Hey Left design,

Sorry we've fallen a bit behind on the support forum posts. Could I ask, are you using the latest version of the plugin? That should have fixed the issue with older backups not being deleted.

As for the monthly backups running daily, there have been several reports of this happening but so far I haven't been able to track down the cause. One thing you can try is to uninstall and then re-install the plugin, that will cause the schedules to be re-registered and should cause the monthly schedules to start working again.

I did all that. I have uninstalled and re-installed but it didn't resolve the issue.
and yes. I am using the latest version of the plugin.

Simple install and uninstall will not do it. Cause the Settings are saved in the MySQL Database.
Is there a easy way to get rid of all the stored BackupWordpress informations.
And then try a clean fresh install?

I too have backups going crazy, it started about a month ago. I will have to delete the plugin if this keeps happening as I'm losing valuable business emails due to my storage being full. Please help!

You can remove all the BackUpWordPress settings and options by uninstalling the plugin, this is different from simply deleting the plugins files.

    To uninstall BackUpWordPress:

    1. De-activate the plugin
    2. Click the Uninstall link which then shows up next to the activate link

I have my backups programmed at 23:00 and they run when they want... At 7 am, sometimes at 8 am... So we all have the same problem...

    Any solution?

    Hey kamaleon,

That sounds like a different problem, although BackUpWordPress schedules the backups for 23:00 the cron job is only actually triggered if someone visits the site, so if no-one visits your site until 7am then the backup won't happen until then.

And how is that logic implemented? Usually you want backups to be made at off peak hours, not when someone visits a site.

Can it be forced to be done at 23:00?

Thats just how the WordPress cron system works, it has to be triggered by a visit to a site.

You could setup an actual server cron job which would hit wp-cron.php at 23:00 every evening thus kicking off your backup.

Tom - have you made anymore progress of finding the source of the problem? I downloaded the plugin yesterday and am also getting daily backups despite having it set for monthly.

I'm sorry, the problem persist and the author is not responsive.
this would finally lead to a low rating of the plugin.

    I haven't unfortunately, sorry everyone.

It seems that for some people the monthly schedule just isn't working at all.

Could someone who is seeing this issue also try some of the other schedules, would be good to know if it's just the monthly schedule or whether all schedules are simply running daily.

for me it's happening only in the monthly scheduling but I have not tested all the options thoroughly.

    Hi
I am having the same problem. Have tired everything. now its filling up my disc space and I have to keep deleting.

I have set a monthly scan on my websites (several) and yet is does a daily backup.I have disable and re-enabled it and it still does a daily backup. I have uninstalled and re-installed and it still does a daily backup filling up my disc space allocation. Why?

Anyone know of another plugin by someone else we can try until it gets fixed please? I really want to keep using this when it is fixed.
    Thanks

If you are running into space issues then you could reduce the number of backup files that are stored on the server.

I have the fix complete for the schedule issue and will be releasing an update to the plugin as soon as possible.

Tom - I've just installed the plugin on my website and have a question. Why does the link for "Settings" go to a different page than the link for "Add a Schedule" when the information on both is the same. Also, the page that comes up when I click on "Settings" doesn't actually seem to work as the settings did not get changed after I clicked the "Update" button.

    Hey Taneya,

Clicking settings should load the settings in a popup. If it's loading a separate page then you likely have a javascript error which is breaking the popups.

I'd recommend deactivating your other plugins temporarily as that may resolve the issue. If it does then reactivate your plugins one at a time until you find which one is breaking it.
