Modifying .htaccess permission on 1and1

  • Hi,

I registered my domain (http://techplaza.it) with 1and1.it and I installed WP using their “Click and build” feature.

Now I’m trying to use Total Cache plug in and it requires the permission to modify the file, which in with 1and1 is not permitted even if I try to modify the permission via FTP.

Do you think moving all the WP files to a different folder should solve this? Any other “easy” option to get this working?

Thanks in advance for your help!

  • It’s possibly because of server configurations your host has placed to ward off Brute Force attacks. Have you contacted your host for support?

    Hi,

I send them an email to check if it’s possible to change the permission.

I also tried to create a new .htaccess file and place it in the root directory. What happened is that my site lost the theme configuration (now it’s back to normal, but I still have slow loading times.

I’m not sure this happened because I modified the .htaccess file doing something wrong or because it should stay in the wordpress application folder.

The problem is using 1and1’s “Click and Build”. You’ll need to do a manual install using FTP/SFTP or their Webspace Explorer or whatever they call it that’s built into their custom Control Panel. They don’t allow you to change file permissions on any of the “Click and Build” stuff for security reasons.

Moving the existing files to the root directory wouldn’t be enough right?
