  • I am probably going to make myself sound stupid here, but this is an honest question from someone new to CSS.

I downloaded a theme that I like as a base. I would like to modify it and add my own header and change a few things here and there. I am familiar enough with CSS that I can do this without screwing up the template.

However, my mind cannot wrap around how the template will put the new CSS elements into the theme if I do not have access to modify the HTML code.

Is there a way to modify the HTML, or does it just add it to it if I put a new <div> or other element in the CSS?

Yes – you need to modify the template files in your theme.

No – you have to add the new markup/classes to the template files manually.
